Ex-inmate 'Ken Gartner'

Coming to Bream Bay CRF, Ken Gartner. November 8th, 2009.

(If you are unable to make to our service Ken will be speaking at 'Lifepoint Baptist,' November 1st)

Ken Gartner is a New Zealand Maori. He was a teacher for most of his working life, until his career came to a sudden end twenty four years ago when he served a short term of imprisonment. He turned to Christ while he was inside. Upon his release, he returned to university, gaining BA, BA (Hon), and MA degrees in Maori Studies at Victoria University. He is currently studying towards a doctorate degree. He is a member of Prison Fellowship New Zealand, and takes services on a regular basis in both the men and women's prisons in the Wellington area and at other parts of New Zealand, fulfilling a covenant he made with Jesus in 1983 to tell prisoners everywhere about his love. He is married to Ann, and they both belong to the Elim Church in Wellington New Zealand.

History

In 2002 God moved powerfully among the young people attending Whangarei CRF. As many of them lived in the Bream Bay area, a youthchurch was established in the area. As things naturally progressed, the youthchurch evolved into a daughter church of Christian Renewal Fellowship in 2003.

The founding pastors were Isaac and Dominique Cates, who moved on to live in Auckland in early 2008. Shaun and Raneeta Curtis (former assistant youth pastors of CRF Whangarei) are now the senior pastors.

Bream Bay CRF is a vibrant community church which has a big vision for God and is endevouring to be His hands and feet to the townships south of Whangarei.

We were privileged to have Pastor Colin Shilston from Gateway Christian Fellowship come and minister last Sunday. Colin (on a road bike) and 3 other bikers, part of the Seed of Abraham bike gang, also came and shared testimonies of what God has done and been doing in their lives.
